Aerolithos

"Aerolithos" (Aero=air, lithos=rock) is the name given to a large triangular shaped protrusion of a dark rock (eklogite). Its otherworldly form that can be seen from afar and the fact that it stands out so much in the landscape gives the impression that it has fallen from space, from the "air" - hence its name. The locals used to call it Mavrovolada (mavro=black, volada= local word for rock).

"Αερόλιθος" (Αέρο=αέρας, λίθος=πέτρα) είναι η ονομασία που δίνεται σε μια μεγάλη τριγωνική προεξοχή ενός σκούρου πετρώματος (εκλογίτη). Η απόκοσμη μορφή του που φαίνεται από μακριά και το γεγονός ότι ξεχωρίζει τόσο πολύ στο τοπίο δίνουν την εντύπωση ότι έχει πέσει από το διάστημα, από τον "αέρα" - εξ ου και το όνομά του. Οι ντόπιοι συνήθιζαν να τον αποκαλούν Μαυροβολάδα (βολάδα= τοπική λέξη για τον βράχο).
